The jubilee of mercy2Announcement of the Jubilee Year of Mercy

During the “24 hours for the Lord” held on Friday, 13th March, 2015 –at St Peter’s Basilica, Pope Francis  announced  an Extraordinary Jubilee which has at its centre, the mercy of God – to be a Holy Year of Mercy.

“We want to live in the light of the word of the Lord:  “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful” (cf. Lk 6:36). And this especially applies to confessors! “

So much mercy!

This Holy Year is due to  commence on the next Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception Tuesday 8th December 2015 and conclude on Sunday 20th  November 2016, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe and living face of the Father’s mercy.’

To enable the celebration of the Holy Year to be for all believers “a true moment of encounter with the mercy of God”, Pope Francis expressed the wish that “the Jubilee be a living  experience of the closeness of the Father,  whose tenderness is almost tangible, so that the faith of every believer may be strengthened and thus testimony to it be ever more effective”.

He also added “I wish that the Jubilee Indulgence may reach each one as a genuine experience of God’s mercy, which comes to meet each person in the Face of the Father who welcomes and forgives, forgetting completely the sin committed.”  To experience and obtain the Indulgence, the faithful are called to make a brief pilgrimage to the Holy Door,  open in every Cathedral or in the churches designated by the Diocesan Bishop, as a sign of the deep desire for true conversion.      Likewise, the Indulgence may be obtained in the Shrines in which the Door of Mercy is open and in the churches which traditionally are identified as Jubilee Churches. “

ON SATURDAY 12 December, at Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu Shrine in Bacchus Marsh, the Jubilee of Mercy announced by Pope Francis was celebrated, with many hundreds of the local community, Marian groups and visitors attending for the official opening of the Holy Door of Mercy.

The Archdiocesan Vicar General Msgr Greg Bennet, Very Rev Fr Ciril Bozic, the Episcopal vicar for Migrants and Refugees, Msgr Joselito Asis, Msgr Benedict Camilleri and other members of clergy, accompanied by the Filipino Choir of St Francis, concelebrated the Holy Mass of the Blessed Virgin in Advent, beofre opening the Holy Door.

The Our Lady Ta’ Pinu Shrine, All Nations Marian Centre, with its distinctive ‘Door of Mercy’, played host not only to the Mass, but confessions through the afternoon, a rosary procession, a procession with the Blessed Sacrament, benediction, and, of course, the ritual blessing and official opening of the designated Holy Door by the Vicar General, Monsignor Bennet.

Fellowship and light refreshments concluded a holy and sacred afternoon.

Visitors to the Shrine were particularly impressed with the huge array of framed statuary adorning the walls. The frames all originated in a Catholic church in Vietnam, which was being demolished during the Vietnam War. They were recovered, stored by the artist and subsequently shipped to Australia for use at the Shrine. Two of them, the nativity and Jesus washing St Peter’s feet, are 24carat gold gilded.

We invite you to come in through the Door of Mercy in our newly opened Chapel of Mercy where Our God awaits you, Come and experience God’s love and Mercy. The Chapel is opened from 8 a.m to 8 p.m daily

It is currently opened for meditations and prayers as we are putting some final finishing touches ( principally regarding safety and security issues) and we will resume adoration very shortly
