Jesus prays to his Father and his sweat becomes like drops of blood.

opening prayer

We adore You O Christ and we praise You (Genuflexion)

R: Because by your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark 14:32-38.

They came to a small estate called “Gethsemane”, and Jesus said to his disciples,

“Stay here while l pray”. Then he took Peter, James and John with him.   And a sudden fear and great distress came onto him.   he said to them: “My soul is sorrowful to the point of death.   Wait here, and keep awake.”  And going little further, he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it was possible, this hour might pass him by.  He said, “Abba, (Father)’ everything is possible for you. Take this cup away from me. But let it be as YOU, NOT I, would have it” He came back and found them sleeping and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Had you not the strength to keep awake one hour? You should be awake and praying not to be put to the test”

Reflection

Christ, the Son of God made man, was like us in everything except in sin, and had the same sorrowful experiences of heartbreaking thoughts as well as of fear that threatens our earthly life. But He showed us how the Will of God should always prevail and should guide us even in the most difficult moments of our existence.

Silence…..Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Let us pray

Jesus,  my  redeemer,  your  soul  suffered  for  me  so  much  sorrow  even  unto death,  bearing  my  infirmities,  enduring  my  sufferings.  Help  me  and  give  me courage,  so that  following  your  example, I overcome  my fear and  weaknesses, to accept always your Father’s will, and to fulfil all my duties well..  Amen.

  •  O my Jesus,  forgive us  our sins, preserve  us  from the  fire of Hell, lead all  souls to Heaven,  especially those in need of Thy  mercy.
  •  My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and l love You.  I beg pardon for those who do not Believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love youclosing prayer
